International Data security survey by Utimaco identifies securing mobile devices as top priority

Oberursel, Germany — July 18, 2006 - Securing mobile end devices and central IT security administration are the major challenges in protecting company data, according to 77% of respondents to an international data security survey conducted by Utimaco œ The Data Security Company. The online survey, completed by nearly 400 IT security experts in Europe, the U.S. and Asia Pacific in June this year, focused on developments in the data security market as well as on evaluating current customer satisfaction ratings.
Challenges and budget spending in the data security market
The study also discovered that 42% of interviewees will increase their budget by more than 10% to meet these demands. While 61% of interviewees rate protection against insiders as a future challenge, only 25% are prepared to back this up with an increased budget. Instead, budget increases will focus on legal compliance (31%) and external data exchange (29%).
Data security offered by specialists will not be replaced in the near future by functions of operating systems or provided by Digital Rights Management (DRM) vendors, according to an overwhelming 83% of the survey‘s participants. Only 34% of the respondents will rely on data security offered by operating systems.
Not surprisingly, 85% of respondents commented that Utimaco‘s IT security solutions will guarantee the protection of confidential data for at least five years. Customers and respondents clearly see Utimaco‘s strength in its strategic and future direction combined with a broad product portfolio. Both these strengths also underpin Utimaco‘s strong positioning in Gartner‘s Magic Quadrant for Mobile Data Protection.
Sample
Nearly 400 employees of mid-sized to large companies, mainly from finance (35%), ITC (18%) and manufacturing industries (15%) as well as governmental bodies (15%), participated in the study. The respondents and customers who took part in the international survey, which was conducted via direct mail and online, came from Europe, the U.S. and Asia Pacific.
